Board of Health · Meeting of September 23, 2026

West Boylston Board of Health renews tobacco agent, adds educational grace period for kratom violations. The board voted unanimously to reappoint the Massachusetts Health Officers Association to inspect the town's eight to nine tobacco retailers, with a first kratom violation drawing an education-only response rather than a fine, following reports that two Mississippi college students died after taking kratom possibly laced with fentanyl. Member Barbara Mard questioned a proposed grace period letting chicken owners register "whatever they have now" through June 30, 2027, saying "it's a long time between now and then for people to kind of forget about this." The board also learned a group's attempt to put a warrant article overturning the chicken regulation on the October town meeting was rejected by the town administrator, since board regulations are not bylaws.

A public health nursing report logged five August case investigations and moderate West Nile virus risk.
