West Boylston Select Board launches DPW regionalization study, weighs 80-unit housing project. The board voted unanimously to form a five-member committee exploring a DPW merger with Boylston, part of a packed meeting that also awarded a $559,366.25 road paving contract to Massachusetts Broken Stone and expanded school-zone speed-limit hours to 7 a.m.-8 p.m. daily. Housing Authority board member Chris Bergland pitched a request for proposals for up to 80 units of affordable housing behind 87 Maple Street, prompting the board to appoint Vice Chair David Ashwell and Clerk Michael Connors to a working group.

"This is always a hot topic in town," one member said of the 40B process. Separately, the board's PILOT subcommittee is exploring a land swap with the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation as a hedge for a future elementary school site, and reported the MWRA pays watershed towns only about $9.3 million total annually against roughly 3.3 million ratepayers.
