WEST BOYLSTON — The West Boylston Select Board closed a three-hour public hearing on a trash collection overhaul that would eliminate pay-as-you-throw bags for a flat $39 monthly fee. Interim Town Administrator Carter Terenzini said disposal tipping fees have jumped from about $85 to roughly $120 to $125 a ton in a year, driving the shift to an enterprise fund modeled on the town's sewer account. Resident Gabe Toppin called the change "about a 7% tax increase," while others, including Sandy Loftus and Pat Cano, said the new 65-gallon and 96-gallon carts are too large for single-car garages.
About 40 households have already opted out ahead of the March 24 deadline. The board voted 3-0 to close the hearing but kept the comment record open until Monday, with a final vote set for March 18.
