West Boylston's Select Board interviewed three finalists for town administrator but took no vote on the hire. Candidates Michael Ward, Sean Fitzgerald and Mike Slasek fielded questions on structural budget pressures, staff morale and the town's new monthly trash fee program. Slasek, a Ludlow town moderator and former administrator in North Brookfield, Blandford, Sterling and Athol, warned that "your increases are not supportable if they continue at the same rate," citing budget growth of more than 5 percent in each of the last two years.
Fitzgerald said "you really need to know where every nickel and dime is" when facing a shortfall. The board later entered executive session on a DCR and City of Worcester sewer litigation matter, then tabled any vote to its next meeting, and adjourned after a unanimous voice vote.
